aproveitando o embalo de cacti, fiz uns testes já tem algum tempo, e
notei que o poller em php é meio demorado para fazer a coleta dos
dados, o que me inviabiliza agendar atualizações de 5 em 5 minutos, e
não é devido ao hardware da pc, pois no mesmo com o MRTG rodou
legal...

alguém sabe se tem como ajustar o cacti para usar algum poller
compilado, em c por exemplo?
