Posso estar falando uma besteira sem tamanho , mas o comando não é
sudo ifconfig wlan create wlandev atho
Eu acho que o correto é:
sudo ifconfig wlan create wlandev ath0
Sobre o /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf eu uso esse:
